During this year's Umraa trip, members of the group
were detained and beaten by the religious police in the Grand Mosque in
Mecca. Having just arrived from the holy city of Medina, the youths were
spending time in worship and supplications in the mosque when they were
detained by the religious police of the mosque. Eight male youths were
taken to a police compound within the mosque where they were insulted
and savagely beaten. The fact that the youths were British/American
citizens and followers of the Shia school of thought led to this vile
treatment. They were released after 12 hours of interrogation without
food and water. The youths are pursuing this
case further with the respective authorities concerned. We urge all
members of the community to stand up and voice their concern over this
incident. You can get involved by doing the following:
1- Send this story to your local papers.
2- Contact the Saudi Arabian embassy to issue a
complaint.
3- Send letters of praise to those news agencies
that have reported the incident and stress upon the fact that this is
not an isolated incident rather an ongoing problem that Muslims around
the world are victims of.
