Youth Room

CYC currently holds the activities in a two level building on the Hussainiat Al Rasoo Al Adham premises. The building is not connected to the mosque and it has its own entrance. The building is in no condition for use it is run down and has major roof problems. Water has been leaking for almost two years now and the building is virtually unused only by the youth with great hardship. The second floor is completely inactive due to the poor state of the sealing and the flooring. CYC carried out minor renovation to the first floor for temporary use, which included painting and minor sealing work. CYC have agreed to renovate the building having full access to the ground floor only. The first floor we will be used by another organisation who are willing to cover 50% of building costs. each org will have a separate entrance.

What would we gain from renovation?

Office Space:

Currently CYC is working from the houses of volunteers to organise its functions. With renovation there will be a room allocated to set up an office. It is essential that we set up a computer with internet access to allow us to organise our events and files. A landline is set up to deal with quarries of our members and their parents.

Storage Space:

With Football training in full swing and Light of Guidance fully booked we lack the space to store our equipment. We tend to spend a lot of money on equipment however with the lack safe storage space we either misplace it or it is lost. We have recently been awarded two thousand pounds to boost our football academy yet we are reluctant to purchase the required equipment afraid it would disappear.

Youth Club & Class Room:

We are facing a difficult scenario at the moment the single room we have is both a class room for the Under 14s and a Youth club (Pool Table and Table Tennis). This leaves a lot of our members frustrated, that when a class is being conducted others can not enjoy the facility of the youth club. Likewise when our members are using the facilities in the Youth Club the class room is inactive. With our current expansion the room has come under even more pressure with four different groups targeting the same room (males, 9-14, 15-18 & females, 9-14, 15-18).

Health & Safety:

We are very much concerned at the current state of the youth room, It is very cold and damp and has a very distinctive smell. The electrical wiring is not up to standard and seems hazarders. Rats have been attracted due to the remains of snakes left behind which leaves the room unbearable and frankly dangerous.

Easy Access:

Currently the building has two entrances one which leads to the car park of the mosque and the second to the outside. We are currently using the entrance of the car park for safety reason. However, after renovation we hope to utilise the outside entrance. This will allow easy access to the building 24/7 rather then depending on the opening hours of the car park.

A Venue to be proud of:

We aspire to be the only youth organisation in the UK with a building to its name. We hope to allow smaller organisations who lack access to a proper meeting place to fully utilise any of the facility the youth room provides. We want to make this place a vocal point for the youth, we hope to build something to be proud of something that reflects the needs of the youth of today, we believe in empowering the youth to be the leaders of tomorrow.
